k-ary n-cubes versus Fat Trees

چکیده
In this paper, we examine performance aspects of fat-tree topologies and compare these to k-ary ncube topologies. In particular, we apply the analytic techniques developed for cube topologies upon fat trees to understand better the characteristic of that topology. The organization of this paper is as follows: Section 1 contains an overview of k-ary n-cube and fat-tree topologies. Section 2 contains a discussion of baseline assumptions used in modeling these network topologies. Section 3 contains an analysis of network performance in terms of bisection bandwidth and network latency. Lastly we conclude in Section 4 with a general overview and criticism of the papers we read.

Latency and Bandwidth Requirements of Massively Parallel Programs: FFT as a Case Study
Many theoretical models of parallel computation are based on overly simplistic assumptions on the performance of the interconnection network. For example they assume constant latency for any communication pattern or innnite bandwidth. This paper presents a case study based on the FFT transpose algorithm, which is mapped on two families of scalable interconnection networks, the k-ary n-trees and...
متن کاملBranches in random recursive k-ary trees
In this paper, using generalized {polya} urn models we find the expected value of the size of a branch in recursive $k$-ary trees. We also find the expectation of the number of nodes of a given outdegree in a branch of such trees.

This paper introduces and evaluates the Multipath E-Cube Algorithm (MECA) for adaptive and fault-tolerant wormhole routing in k-ary n-cubes. This algorithm provides multiple shortest paths between any source and destination node of a multicomputer using only a constant number of virtual channels for every physical channel, and with little added overhead at the router. Consequently, it is able t...
متن کاملAugmented k-ary n-cubes
We define an interconnection network AQn,k which we call the augmented kary n-cube by extending a k-ary n-cube in a manner analogous to the existing extension of an n-dimensional hypercube to an n-dimensional augmented cube. We prove that the augmented k-ary n-cube AQn,k has a number of attractive properties (in the context of parallel computing). For example, we show that the augmented k-ary n...
متن کاملExtra connectivity measures of 3-ary n-cubes
The h-extra connectivity is an important parameter to measure the reliability and fault tolerance ability of large interconnection networks. The k-ary ncube is an important interconnection network of parallel computing systems. The 1-restricted connectivity of k-ary n-cubes has been obtained by Chen et al. for k ≥ 4 in [6]. Nevertheless, the h-extra connectivity of 3-ary ncubes has not been obt...
